The Federal Reserve has published the 2026 Consumer Compliance Outlook, summarizing recent supervisory findings and trends from Federal Reserve examinations of state member banks.

This edition of Consumer Compliance Outlook highlights several areas of ongoing supervisory focus, including:

  • The most commonly cited Federal Reserve consumer compliance violations in 2024, with a continued emphasis on Regulation E error resolution requirements.
  • Flood insurance compliance issues under the Flood Disaster Protection Act, including coverage calculation errors, notice timing, and force‑placement requirements.
  • Consumer complaint trends, particularly complaints related to deposit accounts, prepaid cards, fraud, funds availability, and error resolution.
  • Examiner observations regarding root causes of violations, such as gaps in policies, procedures, training, internal controls, and third‑party oversight.

Institutions should use this information to:

  1. Evaluate current policies, procedures, and controls for alignment with supervisory expectations.
  2. Incorporate identified trends into compliance monitoring and training efforts.
